Punk rock (or simply punk) is a social movement and musical genre that emerges in the mid-1970s in the United States, as part of a social discontent of the youth who began to show their own forms of rebellion, even anarchic, against the social and cultural roles, they considered hypocrites and tense; which they expressed through transgressions and aesthetic, musical and cultural provocations.
The typical dance of this genre is the "Mosh" or "Pogo" in which participants jump, do acrobatics, hit and crash violently, moving frantically in several ways during the performance of a band practiced in groups, sometimes in a circle between those who do.
Punk bands typically use short or fast-paced songs, with hard-edged melodies and singing styles, stripped-down instrumentation, and often anti-political and anti-establishment lyrics.
Punk music marked a generation of dissidents who fought to be heard, not only in America but throughout the world. In such circumstances, the bands were erected as spokespersons of the thoughts of anarcho-punk youth of his time. Some of these groups remain in effect until today.
